From Cheryl Welch Bilston Town Centre Manager
A brief update regarding the town centre framework and developments:

The town has recently launched the Pubwatch scheme which aims to reduce the incidents of alcohol related crime and disorder and improve the night-time economy of the town.  The scheme has 100% town centre public houses membership to the scheme and operates a “banned from one banned from them all” policy.  Many licensed premises have also enrolled their staff onto Barcode training, a nationally recognised training programme for the licensed sector.

The traders forum continues to meet 6-weekly to discuss issues on the town and celebrate successes.  The radio link now supports both the retail sector and the pubs to improve the flow of information on the town.  We have recently secured funding to extend the retail sector radio link.

The Bilston town centre light switch on is scheduled for Saturday 27th November and particular focus will be on the appeal recently launched in the town centre to support Wilkinson Primary School.  Already the Market Tavern, Greyhound & Punchbowl, Hop Pole and Metro Café are signed up to the appeal.

Building on the success of Bilston in Bloom the Chief Executive of Wolverhampton City Council will be visiting the town on 1st November to meet with the Town Centre Manager and retailers to highlight the successes of the town and attract positive press.

The resources of the town centre manager are currently being targeted at ensuring the town maximizes opportunities for Christmas and that we retain as many businesses in the town into 2011.

Regards Cheryl.
