Keep Bilston United

KEEP BILSTON UNITED

Make your views known about the Government's plan to carve up Bilston.

As a result of Government proposals to cut the number of MPs the Boundary Commission for England has published a plan to redraw England's parliamentary boundaries. These plans would see the different wards that make up Bilston split up and put in FOUR different constituencies across three different local government boundaries. We only have until 5th December to make the Boundary Commission think again and keep Bilston united.

Bilston East including Bradley and the town centre would become part of a new Walsall West constituency!  Bilston North including St Chad's, Stowlawn and Villiers estates would become part of a new Wolverhampton North constituency.
The Bilston parts of Ettingshall ward, including the site of the former Bilston steelworks and the Milifields estate would become part of a new Wolverhampton South constituency.  The Bilston parts of Spring Vale ward would become part of a new Dudley West constituency.

Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, said:
"Any pretence that the Boundary Commission would respect traditional community identity has been torn to shreds by these proposals. Bilston is a distinct town with a long history and a strong identity but the Boundary Commission has completely ignored all of that. I think local people will be deeply angered that their town and their identity have been treated in this way and will want to fight to keep Bilston united."
If you want to object to these proposals and keep Bilston united, please write to the Boundary Commission now to make your views known. You can do this by sending this letter.
A public meeting was held in Bilston Town Hall on Thursday evening 27th of October.  This meeting was well attended,,  the key speakers included Lord Dennis Turner of Bilston, The Mayor of Bilston Bert Turner, Pat McFadden MP and various local dignitaries.  Whilst the three people mentioned here are all Labour Party Members, the Keep Bilston United campaign is supported by Conservatives and Liberal Democrats as well.  People from all walks of life and various Ethnic Origins all had one thing in common they were PASSIONATE about Bilston's Past, Present and Future.  If you share the passion show your support for the campaign sign the petition write to the Boundary Commission.
You don't have to be a resident of Bilston to object to these proposals or to support our campaign, indeed at the Bilston meeting people from outside the Bilston Area (including Wolverhampton Homes) pledged their support ! http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2011/10/28/politicians-unite-to-fight-bilston-boundary-plan/
